July 29, 2008 - PRLog -- NHS 247 is the online portal dedicated to National Health Service (NHS) frontline staff - giving them independent news, views and reviews from within the UK healthcare sector. A key part of the portal is NHS 247 TV, the UK's most popular healthcare channel.

The UK's newest television station began broadcasting on 28 July with a range of interviews, documentaries and current affairs programmes aimed at UK healthcare workers particularly those working within the NHS.

The channel will run 24 hours a day at www.nhs247.com and will be accessed by an estimated 500,000 healthcare workers daily.

Producer Michael Carrington said he believes the station will be a success.

“I am particularly pleased to see the channel launched with contributions from the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and Opposition Leader, David Cameron. They have both recognised NHS 247 TV as a legitimate and independent channel in which to air their concerns over the NHS, providing increased viewing options to the hard working employees of the NHS.

“The use of innovative digital internet technology to assist the station’s low-cost operation is remarkable and I have no doubt the channel will be a success.”

The new channel will air documentaries, magazine programmes, current affairs, interviews and more – some made in-house by NHS 247 TV's experienced producers, others by healthcare organisations and workers jumping into TV production for the first time.

In August 2008 the channel will feature exclusive interviews with former Health Secretary, Patricia Hewitt; Shadow Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley and Anna Walker of the Healthcare Commission. These interviews will be aired within the channel's 'One 2 One' brand. Other shows include 'E.R: Exclusive Report' which will carry heavyweight features. David Cameron used the ER show to launch an attack on the proposed Polyclinics touted by Health Secretary, Alan Johnson. NHS 247 TV's flagship documentary strands are 'HealthWatch' and 'Technology Today' which take a look at emerging healthcare trends and new technology used in hospitals respectively.

The station also carries the UK's biggest 'NHS Staff Discount' offer. Hundreds of high st shops have signed up to support NHS staff by way of offering them discounts on production of a valid NHS identification card.

NHS 247 TV will also feature Case Studies from third party organisations that work hand-in-hand with the NHS. Reed, Colt Telecom, Cory Bros and Steffian Bradley Architects all featured at the launch of the channel.

NHS 247 TV Producer Michael Carrington said: “NHS 247 TV represents a much-needed and radical new departure in television in healthcare.

“The channel is part of a growing movement that brings media closer to people and communities, using new technologies to create more varied, alternative and healthcare-focused broadcasting.”
