Total Learning Centers (TLC) recently obtained certification to offer a ground-breaking educational program designed to help children, adolescents and adults with attention deficits by training and increasing working memory and executive functioning skills. Less than 100 licenses exist in the United States to offer this program, and TLC is the only facility in Pennsylvania to be approved.
Cogmed Working Memory Training was developed in Sweden at one of Europe’s leading medical institutes. To become a certified provider, individuals must go through special training and only a physician or psychologist can oversee of the program.
TLC co-owners Dr. Joe Utay, the resident psychologist, and Dr. Carol Utay received Cogmed training and are thrilled to bring these resources to the Pittsburgh area.
According to Dr. Joe Utay, “As a psychologist, I’m always on the lookout for programs backed by excellent research studies. Anyone can make wild claims, but few can substantiate them with well-controlled unbiased studies. This is why we’re so impressed with Cogmed. They have solid research to support their claims that the program truly does lead to significant improvement in memory, which of course then can boost success in many other aspects of life.”
Cogmed benefits include: improved ability to sustain attention; improved impulse control, better complex reasoning skills; better ability to organize and multitask; and better academic performance. To learn more visit http://www.cogmed.com.
Dr. Carol Utay is very pleased that Cogmed fits TLC’s philosophy of helping kids and adults become successful: “We always evaluate an individual’s strengths and weaknesses to determine the best fitting research-based effective methods for a person’s life-long success, and clearly Cogmed fits with this! Most importantly, parents, preschool through college students, as well as older participants are very pleased with the better memory they personally experience on a daily basis.”
Total Learning Centers offers Cogmed’s five-week program as a home-based program including weekly coaching sessions or on-site at all four of its facilities in the North Hills, South Hills, Fox Chapel and Murrysville.
