On Sept. 14, Anco Products, Inc. and Grunau Co. will team up to race 13.1 miles at the Banco Popular Chicago Half Marathon. Their collective goal is to raise $10,000 for the Habitat for Humanity. Each participating employee has an individual goal of $400.
APi Group employees who are not running are encouraged to sponsor their co-workers and come out to show support on race day. The race will start at 7:30 a.m. at the Museum of Science and Industry, 57th Street and Lake Shore Drive in Chicago.
Habitat for Humanity (H4H) is a non-profit organization that has built 250,000 homes worldwide with the help of businesses and volunteers since it was founded in 1976. It provides decent affordable housing for partner families through sweat equity and reasonable loans to help break the cycle of homelessness and sub-standard housing.
Juli Schirmer, Resource Development Manager of Elkhart County's H4H defines sweat equity as, "the act of partner families devoting hundreds of hours constructing their own homes as part of the cost. The homes are sold to them at no profit and the loan repayments help to build other Habitat housing."
The event will also promote each company’s Employee Wellness Program. According to The U.S. Department of Health and Human Service, only 3 out of 10 adults get the recommended amount of physical activity. Cheri Gearhart, Anco's Human Resource Specialist states, " It is important that our workers get at least the Department of Health's suggested 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical training most days of the week. This race ensures it."
Each team member has an individual training program set-up through the Active Network (www.active.com)
"By providing a challenging event coupled with the higher purpose of helping others, Anco and Grunau are honored to promote wellness and support a great cause" say Andy McCleery, Anco's President .
