Three Mountains, Eight People, 24 Hours And Over £13,000 Raised For Charity

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jul 24, 2008 – A hard-core team of fundraisers from Moneyway raised more than £13,000 for three Midlands charities by scaling the three highest mountains in Great Britain in just 24 hours.
The eight-strong team started their quest on Friday afternoon (JULY 4) afternoon, as they began the climb to the top of Ben Nevis in Scotland – standing 4,408 feet high.
The group completed the challenge on Saturday, following Ben Nevis with Scafell  Pike and concluding the feat with Snowdon.
An exhausted Owen Woodley, Sales and Marketing Director for Moneyway, said: “This was a massive challenge, and it did not pass without incident. Our Chief Executive Gary Jennison was injured during the climb on Scafell Pike, which left him unable to take part in the final part of the mission.
“That said, some of our party were beyond fit – Matt McKenning, Head of Field Sales, ran the London marathon earlier this year, and he quite literally ran down Scafell Pike – he and his colleagues Ben Clay and Stuart Williams actually trounced the 24-hour aim and completed all three in 22-and-a-half hours,” he added.
“The weather was not kind to us, and travelling massive distances- 560 miles in all, as well as climbing the mountains – over the course of just one day, was one of the most gruelling experiences any of us will ever undertake.
“But the sense of achievement afterward, as we tucked into a well deserved pint and a curry, was superb. Quite apart from pushing every one of us to our limits and bringing about a real sense of comradeship, we succeeded in raising over £13,000 from our generous sponsors,” said Owen.
“That money will be divided between our three nominated charities; SNAP adventure playground in Cannock, the National Institute for Conductive Education and St Mary’s Hospice in Birmingham.
“Moneyway has always been very determined to raise funds for these causes and last year we raised more than £8,000 for them. By the end of April this year, we had already raised that, and this challenge has smashed all of our records,” he said.
“We are delighted that we have been able to do this and we are already deciding what we can do next year to top this. Or we will be, when we’ve stopped aching,” added Owen.
