It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances, and it came into force on June 1, 2007. REACH mandates major changes in documentation of the safe manufacture, use, import and disposal of chemicals for the European Union chemicals industry. Every industry that directly or indirectly uses chemicals currently faces the challenge of complying with this regulation to continue business operations in Europe.
For achieving REACH compliance, the major task for chemical manufacturers and importers will be to gather information on safety aspects of their chemicals. The objective is to replace unsafe chemicals with benign chemicals. Compliance with this regulation requires the submission of technical dossiers and chemical safety reports to the European Chemicals Agency within a stipulated period of time.
