Mexican Dance Ensemble announces their Spain Summer Tour 2008

Mexican Dance Ensemble a non-profit Chicago based dance troupe, are pleased to announce their Spain Summer Tour 2008. MDE will depart on Wednesday 23 July 2008 and will return on Thursday 21 August 2008.

Mexican Dance Ensemble announces their Spain Summer Tour 2008

CHICAGO IL, USA – Mexican Dance Ensemble (MDE), a non-profit Chicago based dance troupe, are pleased to announce their Spain Summer Tour 2008. MDE will be holding an open practice on Tuesday 22 July 2008 at 7:00 PM at the Boys and Girls Club, 2950 W. 25th St. MDE will depart on Wednesday 23 July 2008 and will return on Thursday 21 August 2008 after performing in cities such as Madrid, Utrillas, Teruel, Santiago Compostela, San Martin del Rio, Almeria (Festival del folklore), Palencia, Provincia de Granada and Huesca among others to be confirmed.


“Words cannot express how proud I am of MDE. We are a group that was born out of a desire to celebrate our Mexican culture. We hold ourselves to a high standard and are proud to represent Mexico in every one of our performances,” said MDE’s Artistic Director, Samuel Cortez. “This is a dream come true,” added Carmen Gallardo, one of MDE’s dancers, “I cannot believe how far we’ve come. We’ve always considered ourselves average young people from the heart of the Mexican community in Chicago who are proud to express our culture. Now we have the honor of representing Mexico and Chicago in Spain.”

Founded in November 2001, MDE is a community based Mexican folkloric dance group composed of professional and talented dancers from the Chicago area. MDE is proud to enlist in its membership some of the brightest young talent from Chicago’s Mexican community including Pilsen, Little Village, and others. MDE’s commitment is to serve as a liaison of Mexican folk dance art. Because MDE expresses their talent at a high artistic level of excellence, MDE are considered to be one of the most dynamic and talented dance groups in the Chicago area. MDE has performed on some of the most prestigious stages including the Chicago Theatre, Pritzker Pavilion, Athenaeum Theatre, and Harris Theatre among others in this city of Chicago. In 2005 MDE was awarded First Place in "The Second International Mexican Folkloric Dance Competition" in New York, as well as the prestigious “La Gran Competencia de Cuadros Folkloricos" in Dallas, TX.

MDE has received numerous awards and certificates of appreciation including from the State of Illinois, the Mexican Folkloric Dance Society of NY, the Folk Festival of the North of Texas, Office of the Cook County Treasurer, The Government of the State of Guerrero, Mexico and The Resurrection Project. In 2007 MDE was part of International Rhythms in Dance Chicago 2007, selected as part of the Grand Finale, as well as asked to participate in Best of Dance Chicago.
