When we think of three ring binders we don't think much about their design just their utility. Yet that is exactly what Federal Looseleaf, a Minneapolis-
With the recent launch of www.federallooseleaf.com, Federal Looseleaf highlights its original and creative thinking with dozens of examples of presentation packaging from menu covers to elaborate multi-piece sales kits.
“As a regional manufacturer of custom presentation packaging, we wanted to expand our customer base. Having that objective in mind, we knew that word-of-mouth would only get us so far and our current website wasn't doing the job. We contracted with Apex to completely redesign our online presence and this new website is just the first step,” says Jeff Hunter, founder and president of Federal Looseleaf.
The new website design is a reflection of the company's slogan “binders are my life” and it’s quirky founder Jeff Hunter. Just a quick glance at a competitor's site will show that Federal Looseleaf's new web presence is quite a contrast in a very traditional industry. With a color palate as varied as their portfolio, the new website highlights the numerous presentation packaging projects that Federal has completed. Like snowflakes, each project is a custom creation and no two are the same.
“When I first toured the Federal Looseleaf facility, I was struck by how varied and original their work was. These aren't just 3-ring binders, these are presentation creations. Each one is custom-designed and that is the only way that Federal Looseleaf works. Manufacturing the kind of binders you find at a big box store doesn't interest them. A visit to Federal's shop floor is like going to an idea factory and we wanted the website to reflect this major market differentiator,”
According to company president Jeff Hunter “We are in a business that some may considered old school. People say: Binders? How boring is that? We don't think of it that way. A 3-ring binder is just the canvas we work on. We start there and then find ways to integrate new materials and manufacturing techniques into our work. Clients always look for innovative ways to tell their story and we delivery them custom presentation packaging that no one else can.”
After the initial launch of its new site, Federal expects to add functionality to allow customers to submit quotes, send creative files via FTP and place orders online. They will soon complete work on a new line of custom presentation materials that they expect to highlight on the site and allow customers to order in small quantities. This new site is the beginning of a major departure for Federal Looseleaf which usually functions as an OEM and sells their creations almost exclusively to businesses and advertising agencies. “We expect retail customers to respond to this new line we’re developing and through the new website, expand our market area worldwide,” explains Federal Looseleaf's Jeff Hunter.
