U.S. Open Winner At Scenic Hills Golf Club For Clubhouse Opening

PR Log (Press Release) – Jul 20, 2008 – PENSACOLA, Fla.; August 20, 2008 – Scenic Hills Country Club (http://www.scenichills.com/index.cfm?menu=563&openitem=563 ) will be hosting a Re-Grand Opening of their golf facility on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.  Intertwined with a day full of golf and prizes, former LPGA U.S. Open winner Donna Caponi will be present to unveil Caponi’s, Scenic Hills’s new restaurant.

“We are delighted to celebrate the re-opening of a great Pensacola landmark after spending the past couple of years creating an even better golf course and an exquisite dining experience for all to enjoy,” said Scenic Hills General Manager, Rick Gorman.  “Chef Eric Troup has incorporated his talent and expertise to create an American style restaurant, Caponi’s, with the help of golf legend and namesake Donna Caponi.”

In 1969, Donna Caponi won her first U.S. Women’s Open in Pensacola and followed it with another win only a year later. Donna Caponi was the second player in US Women's Open history to win consecutive titles in 1969 and '70.  Caponi is a member of the LPGA Hall of Fame and has also been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, some of the most prestigious honors in the golf industry.  After beginning her professional career in 1965, Caponi won an astounding twenty-four events on the LPGA Tour, four of which were major championships.  

“We have taken into account the type of food our guests enjoy and I feel confident the menu we have created will prove to be a quality dining experience for lunch or dinner,” said Eric Troup, Executive Chef at Scenic Hills.  “I had the privilege to work with Donna in creating her signature dish and I have been looking forward to this day when we get to share it with everyone.”

Redesigned by former U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate in 1992, Scenic Hills is the only course in the state of Florida to host a U.S. Open. The 18-hole, Par 71 championship course mixes natural beauty with a layout certain to offer golfers of all skill levels a challenge and enjoyable round.  Scenic Hills Country Club is a member of the Emerald Coast Golf Trail (http://www.emeraldcoastgolftrail.com/course/emerald.asp? ...) along with Tiger Point Golf Club, Shalimar Pointe Country Club, and The Club at Hidden Creek.
