SINGAPORE issues Long Term Pass card for FOREIGNERS , says Singapore Company Setup

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 20, 2008 – As part of the government’s initiative to enhance the national security of the country, Singapore will issue a new Long Term Pass (LTP) card to all foreigners residing in Singapore. The card will be issued in phases from the second half of 2008 to foreigners on Student's Pass (STP), long term visit pass, Employment Pass (EP) and Dependant's Pass.

With the introduction of the LTP, current stamp endorsement on the travel documents and the paper-laminated Disembarkation/Embarkation card, issued to long-term pass holders will be done away with. The new LTP card will sport improved security features such as the photograph and fingerprint of cardholders aged 15 and above. It will provide secure means of identifying individuals and facilitate travel. The LTP card containing biometric features is expected to provide more secure means of identifying individuals and facilitate travel, and eradicating forgery and fraudulent use of the card. The LTP will be issued to the following groups

•   Employment Pass holders
•   EntrePass holders
•   Personalized Employment Pass holders
•   Training Employment Pass holders
•   Work Holiday Pass holders
•   Dependants Pass and long term visit pass holders whose passes are tied to Work Pass holders (i.e. Dependants of Employment Pass holders)


LTP cardholders will also be able to enjoy expedited and automated immigration clearance at major checkpoints around Singapore, if their foreign-issued passports are compliant with the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization. Such cardholders who are eligible for automated clearance will be advised accordingly at the point of registration.

Existing holders of various Passes will transit to the new LTP cards from the second quarter of 2009, during the renewal of their passes. Pass holders will be informed on when and how to report for registration. MOM will also open a new Employment Pass Services Center in 2009 to register and issue the new cards to those currently holding the various types of passes. All new long term visit pass and STP holders will be issued with LTP cards in the second half of 2008.
