July 17, 2008 - PRLog -- (PAWTUCKET, RI) -- Local artist Kalliope Amorphous, widely known for her self-portrait photographs, will create an installation of her current body of work at the Hive Gallery in the Hope Artiste Village. The Art Of Kalliope Amorphous opens with a reception August 8 from 7-10pm and will be exhibited through September 10.

The installation will explore Amorphous's surreal, intimate and sometimes disturbing self-portrait photographs. These are conceptual pieces in which she fully transforms into an array of personas and historical characters through the use of makeup, facial expression and props.

Kalliope Amorphous was born in Providence, RI, and spent the bulk of her youth in New York City, dabbling in everything from spoken word poetry to performance art. Her past incarnations in theatre can be seen in her dramatic, moody approach to lighting and composition. Amorphous typifies a wave of largely self-taught artists who are on the rise, and who are becoming widely known as emerging artists, primarily through the Internet. Her work has shown in the United States and internationally. This is her first solo show in the Rhode Island area.

The Hive Gallery is located in the Hope Artiste Village, located at 1005 Main Street, Suite 109 in Pawtucket, RI. The Hope Artiste Village is one of Rhode Island’s largest mill restoration projects and an up and coming center for emerging art in the New England area.
