FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jul 17, 2008 – Transposagen Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. based in Lexington, KY, announced today that the Knockout Rat Database is now available on line at the Knock Out Rat Consortium (KORC) website, sponsored by Transposagen. The database lists available knockout rat models and the corresponding disrupted gene and phenotype if available. The KORC website is directed toward academic and pharmaceutical researchers and the organization has the goal to create at least one rat with a null mutation corresponding to every gene in the rat genome. The direct link for the database is http://www.knockoutrat.org/insertionInfoSummary.php.

“Many pharmaceutical companies believe the rat is a better model than the mouse for human cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis, and many autoimmune, neurological and behavioral disorders,” said Dr. Eric Ostertag, CEO of Transposagen.  “The KORC database will help the pharmaceutical industry and academia identify the appropriate animal models to use for their drug discovery and development research.”
