Jul 17, 2008 – As many as 21 per cent of the adult Indian diabetic population are inflicted with specific medical, therapeutic or pediatric conditions, according to a recent study.
"These conditions have many times led to problems in the foot and leg of diabetics," Dr S Lakshmi, Head of Department - preventive foot care, Dr A Ramachandran's Diabetes Hospital told reporters .
Speaking on the occasion of the launch of 'Crocs Rx' shoes for diabetics by multinational footwear company Crocs Inc., she said these shoes are made out of a special clog, helping prevent wounds in the foot and aiding diabetics in living a pain free life.
A clinical study of these shoes by Indian doctors on 100 patients had demonstrated that there was reduced pressure on the plantar aspect of the foot as compared with the pressure while wearing standard footwear, she said.
The Crocs Rx shoes also help heal skin infections, wounds and ulcers, she said.
The Crocs shoes will be available in leading hospitals and medical shops.
