The Bureau reported yesterday that it had received an influx of concerned enquiries by customers regarding their estimated energy bills. The BBC News team also highlighted severe cases where customers found themselves owing in excess of £1000, despite expecting that their direct debits would cover these costs.
Citizens Advice blames these problems on rising tariffs and billing issues, and bill payer’s difficulties are further compounded by information from Energywatch which suggests that over a third of all bills are inaccurate due to estimated meter readings.
Sam Threlfall, Commercial Manager of National Double Glazing said:
“Homeowners are running the risk of running up enormous bills if they’re not careful, all because the amount they’re paying is based on estimates and best guesses. Sometimes these simply are not accurate.”
Threlfall went on to mention that clamping down on energy expenditure has never been more important. Taking measures such as installing double glazed windows and wall insulation will greatly reduce wasted energy, and decrease the cost of bills.
