Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship Recipients Announced

The 2008 recipients of the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship, the nation's only college scholarship fund for skateboarders, have been selected. The scholarships are awarded to students who have been activists for public skateparks.
 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jul 15, 2008 – $5000 scholarship to Jamie Skinner presented by Activision/Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground                                                                                                                                            

Jamie formed a task force to create a concrete skatepark in New Braunfels, Tx.  He lobbied city council, made presentations, wrote grant applications, and was involved in all aspects of design and fundraising.  He created and teaches a skate camp for 8-12 year olds.

$1000 scholarship to Ian Trask presented by The Tony Hawk Foundation                                

an collected petitions for a public skateprk in Aplington, Iowa.  He attended city council meetings, was involved in the park design, and held numerous fundraisers.  He teaches younger skaters.  He will study Animation and Film.

$1000 scholarship to Stephen Peters presented by The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC)                                                                                              

Stephen led the process for the construction of a skatepark in New Windsor, MD.  He addressed the town council, gained subsidies, and drafted design plans.  He is a member of the National Honor Society.  He will attend Carroll Community College and study Business and Finance.

$1000 scholarship to Jerad Nun presented by The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC)                                                                                                                            

Jerad helped create a committee for a skatepark in Maryville, Missouri.  He held raffles, solicited donations from business owners, and worked with the Department of Parks and Recreation to complete the park.  He will attend Metropolitan Community College.

$1000 scholarship to Correy Crawford presented by The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC)                                                                                                      

Due to Correy’s petition drive, lobbying efforts, and presentation to city council, he was appointed a special assistant to the Mayor of Harker Heights, Tx, to design a public skatepark.  He will attend the University of Houston and study Photography.

$1000 scholarship to Sam Jackson presented by The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC)                                                                                                    

Sam helped create a committee to get a public skatepark in Rye, NY.  He was involved in all fundraising and helped with park construction. He teaches skateboarding for the Recreation Department. He will attend the State University of New York and study Construction Management.
