Kids Rock for Barack Gives a Voice to Those Who Can’t Be Heard at the Polls

The Unity Bands provide a younger generation of Americans, whose voice has traditionally been absent in the political process, an opportunity to voice their opinion and make a difference by participating in Obama’s campaign. Kids Rock for Barack was founded by brothers Dr. Hodari and Bakari Brooks, who shared the vision of bringing whole families together in the political process through education, inspiration and involvement. The idea for the organization came about when Hodari was talking to his three young daughters about the monumental and historic nature of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

“When I told them that their grandfather lived through the reality of segregation and inequalities in our political process, it really hit home.  It was then I realized that many of today’s youth want to make a difference in the political process –  they just need parents, teachers and mentors in their life to educate and involve them,” said Dr. Hodari Brooks, co-founder of Kids Rock for Barack.

America’s youth represents the next generation of voters, yet this segment of the population has traditionally been overlooked in the political process. Kids Rock for Barack intends to help change that—one wristband at a time. The organization’s black and white colored Unity Bands read “Kids Rock for Barack” on one side and “Unity for All” on the other side. These bands represent a central theme in Barack Obama’s message to voters that each American today has the power and opportunity to no longer be separated by their differences. Instead, they can be joined by what they have in common – the hope for uniting all races, ages, religions, political affiliations and cultures.  

Kids Rock for Barack believes that engaging America’s youth in the political process from an early age produces a long-term potential for involvement in politics and community.
