Jul 14, 2008 – By taking small steps around the home consumers could cut their energy bills as well as become more eco-friendly, one expert has suggested.
A spokesman for Nigel's Eco Store said there are a number of simple things people can do involving how they use their kitchen appliances that can make a significant difference to their carbon footprint as well as reduce their outgoings.
Nigel Berman, founder of the store, said that items such as ecoballs can cut down the amount of washing powder you need to buy and eco-kettles can be useful in reducing energy use.
"A normal box of washing powder will last 20 washes. A box of ecoballs could replace up to 50 boxes of those, so I've worked out that it might save you about £200," he said.
Ecoballs utilise mineral salts which combine with ionized oxygenated water to clean clothes more efficiently than traditional powder or detergents.
