July 14, 2008 - PRLog -- Glasgow / Portsoy – Scotland – Great Britain – 14 July 2008 – The new owners of a north-east distillery, where whisky production is due to restart after 22 years, have launched an appeal for historical information about the plant.

Glenglassaugh distillery, near Portsoy, was bought in March by Dutch investment firm The Scaent Group and is due to reopen later this year. The plant revival is expect¬ed to create about 20 jobs and there are plans to release lim¬ited editions of existing rare malt stocks for the luxury whisky market.

The new owners plan to collect information about the distillery's past and may put selected memorabilia on public display. Managing director Stuart Nickerson said: "The history and heritage of Glenglassaugh is at the very heart of our future plans for the distillery. We are appealing to anyone who may have infor¬mation of interest that re¬veals the history of this hid¬den gem."

At the same time, the dis¬tillery hopes to recruit local skilled tradesmen to help restore the plant to its former glory. Contracts are available for joiners, builders and roofers with experience of working with traditional materials. Mr. Nickerson said: "We are offering an excellent opportunity for locally based, traditional craftsmen to help breathe new life back into this historic site. At one time, the distillery was at the heart of the com¬munity and we are keen to ensure local people benefit from the work here."

Anyone with historical in¬formation or who is inter¬ested in work opportunities can contact Mr Nickerson or distillery manager Graham Eunson at the distillery on +44 (0) 1261 842367.

About the Glenglassaugh Whisky Distillery
The Glenglassaugh Distillery is situated on the Banffshire coast in the North-East of Scotland, close to the small village of Portsoy. The distillery was built in 1875 by local businessmen to satisfy the growing global demand for Scotch Malt Whisky. The site was chosen due to its close proximity to a water supply of high quality and easy access to the nearby barley fields. The whisky from this distillery has traditionally been used in the production of blended whiskies such as Cutty Sark and The Famous Grouse. During the 1980’s when all companies were reviewing their operations the economics of running this relatively small and isolated distillery persuaded the owners that they should stop operations and the distillery has remained silent to this day. In 2008 Scaent purchased the distillery from the existing owners and have plans to invest significantly in the distillery and so once again recommence operations and to reintroduce to discerning customers the distinctive and high quality attributes of The Glenglassaugh Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
