Conserving Energy Is Vital As Household Expenses Rise Again

Last week saw six of the main energy suppliers in the UK warn of yet another impending raise to the cost of household bills.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jul 11, 2008 – The bosses of these companies refused to contradict economist predictions, which foresee rising prices of up to 40 per cent, blaming rising wholesale gas costs. A price uplift to this degree could leave homeowners paying out £1,470 on monthly bills (a 50% increase since 2006).
This coupled with current environmental issues, means that it has never been more important for households to conserve energy and cut down on waste.

Luckily, many energy efficiency measures are not only cheap and environmentally friendly, but simple too. Basic changes, such as turning down the heating by 1 degree can reduce costs by 10%, while every energy saving light bulb saves £100 over its lifetime. Switching off electrical equipment, rather than leaving it on standby, can also save up to 8% on bills.

Stephanie Rogers of National Double Glazing commented:

“Ensuring that your home is well insulated is the single most effective measure for homeowners to save money. This means making sure the walls are properly layered, and installing double glazed windows.”

double glazing cuts the amount of heat lost through windows in half, and as a stand alone measure can save the bill payer over £110 per year.

“You could also save a further £150 per year with loft insulation,” noted Rogers “and with the current cost of living to consider it’s definitely worth it.”
