PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 11, 2008 -
Her mind, like her sleek silver sports car, is in the fast lane and leaving the twenty-somethings in the dust.

Lu Parish is 87, and she is in the middle of writing a book, planning to travel to India (again!) and putting on the first Art Exhibit of her life.

She hasn’t been sitting around with the motor idling or cruising in circles around the town square. Lu has sailed down the River Ganges at 4 a.m.; been chased by a rogue elephant in Africa; attended Kabuki Theatre in Japan; been hot-air ballooning in France; and been on a breathtaking helicopter ride over the Iguazu Falls in Brazil. Some people spend their lives waiting for the right opportunity, later wishing they had done this or that. Other people don't wait or wish. They just do it.

Her first Art Exhibit is scheduled to open at the Red Bluff Art Gallery on Friday, July 18th. The Exhibit will be up until August 15th.

Two Artist's Receptions will be held for Lu. The first is on Friday night, July 18th from 5-9 PM. The second is on Saturday, July 19th, from 4-6 in the afternoon.

Her work reflects her life of travel and multiple interests. Her grandfather’s 1907 Chrysler is featured in one painting; another depicts a fisherman in China; and another, a castle in Spain ("I almost bought that castle!" says Lu) are just some of the things featured in the show.

Her beautiful flower paintings hint at the influence of Georgia O'Keeffe with their close-up style, bold and colorful.

Lu is currently working on her Autobiography. It will likely be filled with her memories of a life of travel.

Lu became active with the Girl Scouts at a young age and has maintained that association throughout her life. Her life has been filled with learning and growing as an individual and as a Girl Scout leader. Much of her travel has been related to Girl Scout events. She has visited Africa, Europe, Hawaii, and countries like India, Brazil, Thailand, the Philippines, Greece, Turkey, Nepal, Canada, Japan Korea, Russia, Bali, Singapore and Mexico, among others.

Be sure to come to her Artist's Reception - Friday, July 18th from 5-9 PM or on Saturday, July 19th, from 4-6 PM. As an added bonus, the Gallery will also be featuring two new exhibits, “Friends & Family Portraits” and Libby Coates’ “Mineral (CA) Paintings”.

Both Lu and Libby are active members of the Red Bluff Artist's Association.
