New Hampshire Roller Derby Kicks off Inaugural Season

July 10, 2008 - PRLog -- Nashua, NH – NH Roller Derby, New Hampshire’s first and only woman’s flat track roller derby league is kicking off their inaugural season August 2, 2008 at JFK Coliseum in Manchester, NH.

After a year of training, the ladies of NH Roller Derby (NHRD) are ready to bring a hard-hitting, fast paced, double dose of derby to the Granite State for the first time. The inaugural season is kicking off with a doubleheader scrimmage featuring guest skaters from leagues around New England, including Maine, Boston, Providence and Pioneer Valley.

Roller derby has experienced a nation-wide explosion in the past few years, and now it's found its way to New Hampshire. This gang of fearless female athletes will offer more than your average sporting event, roller derby is a full contact, aggressive, competitive sport conducted on four-wheeled skates.

DATE: Saturday, August 2, 2008
TIME: Doors 4pm, first scrimmage 5pm, second scrimmage 7:15pm.
WHERE: JFK Coliseum, 303 Beach Street, Manchester, NH
TICKETS: Available at www.nhrollerderby.com. Adults $5 in advance, $7 at the door and children under 5 are free.

About Roller Derby

Roller derby involves two teams of four blockers skating round an elliptical track, while a point scorer from each team ("the jammer") tries to fight their way through, gaining a point for each opposing player they pass. Trips, grabs, elbows, headbutts and fist-fighting are all illegal – but spine-crunching shoulder barges, hip checks and booty blocks are totally legit.
