Commonthreadz Benefit Concert Featuring Billy Joe Shaver And More!

PR Log (Press Release) – Jul 09, 2008 – CommonThreadz (www.CommonThreadz.org) is an Austin-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is working to provide orphans and vulnerable children in the developing world with the chance of an education and social acceptance by providing them with school uniforms that they need in order to go to school. We also raise awareness and funds for other nonprofits through our line of socially-conscious apparel. For every t-shirt we sell, CommonThreadz gives a school uniform to an orphan or vulnerable child in the developing world. Our apparel is available at http://www.commonthreadz.org/shop.

Chances are you did not know that in many developing countries not having a school uniform means that you are not allowed to go to school, or that by not having one you wear the stigma of having AIDS. In Africa alone, millions of children have never set foot in a school because they cannot afford the required uniform. While some forms of aid can encourage dependency, the uniforms allow students to create their own strength.

CommonThreadz will celebrate its launch with a benefit concert featuring the legendary Billy Joe Shaver and other leading Austin bands including Blues Mafia and Twanguero at Antone’s July 30th. Doors open and opening bands begin at 6PM. Billy Joe Shaver and his band will begin their show at 9PM. Tickets are $15 and are available at Antones.net. VIP upstairs table tickets are also available for $50 each (4 tickets minimum).

The CommonThreadz benefit featuring Billy Joe Shaver will also include a display of all of the t-shirt designs that have been donated for CommonThreadz’ apparel line and a silent auction with generous items donated from local Austin businesses and organizations.
