As the election gets closer, 2008 Election gifts surface and retailers hope to cash in on a piece of the political pie. As the economy gets sluggish, people are focusing on the election more than ever, and what better way to express thoughts on your presidential preference than sending a voting gift to friends, relatives, politicians and lobbyists.
Vote Democrat In 2008 and Vote Republican in 2008 Gift Baskets, created by Creative Gift Baskets, LLC and offered only at www.RedneckGifts.net and www.IdahoWineBaskets.com are showing signs of high sales this election season. "The election gift baskets are picking up sales and our Vote Republican In 2008 is selling two to one over Vote Democrat In 2008," Michelle Larsen, president of Creative Gift Baskets says. "We are not sure why the Republican gift baskets sales are higher, but it could turn around as time gets closer to the election."
The gift baskets include quality gourmet snack foods with humorous labeling. The Vote Democrat Gift Basket pokes fun at Republicans with products like "Global Warming Chocolate Balls - Republicans will say yes to stopping Global Warming...and yes to Democrats in 2008, Republican Nuts - Don't be a Republican nut, free riding on the backs of Democrats. Support Democrats in fixing the Energy Crisis," and "Vote For Peace, World Peace Candy - This nutty, buttery , Peace Candy is so tranquil and delightful, Republicans will hug their neighbors, take up meditation, protest the War on Terror, vote Democrat in 2008 and live happily ever after." The Vote Republican Gift Basket pokes fun at the Democrats with products like "Democrat Flip-Flop Nut Crunch, Freedom Popcorn - This Freedom Popcorn is so patriotic it will have Democrats promoting the war on terror, while spending their days waving the American flag at a Fight For Freedom Parade instead of picketing the White House. Liberals will be writing letters to the President personally apologizing for the lies they told about him," and "Firearm Freedom Shot Popped Wheat - Republicans would like to invite a Democrat bird hunting. While bird hunting, we can explain the fundamentals of firearm freedom. Democrats will love our informative discussion about the Second Amendment during the hunting trip. Please join us."
"The 2008 Election Gifts have been well received," says Michelle Larsen. "Both Democrats and Republicans laugh out-loud at the labels. When writing the copy for the products, I interviewed many people, both Democrat and Republican. Most Republicans had a sense of humor and laughed at both sides. Republicans seemed to have more of a sense of humor, while Democrats were more serous. Some Democrats even got a bit angry when discussing the issues and others thought more political correctness was needed. In fact, Democrats were little help in this process. Do Democrats lack a sense of humor about politics? This is a question I have been asking since the beginning of this process. I am an Independent and try to view politics with an open mind," Michelle continues. "I find it all quite interesting and see the race for the presidency a lot like football. We pick a side and root for our team no matter what. Our team can do no wrong and we will stick by them through the good, bad, and the ugly. Winning the game becomes the importance."
"We tried to keep the political humor for the Election Gift Baskets light and unoffensive,"
"I have devised a simple three part exercise to stop the madness. Step 1) Call yourself an Independent (Even if you don't feel that way personally or vote as an Independent, you can start to move more toward the middle and become more excepting of the other party). Step 2) When you see people on the street, envision them carrying hundreds of books on their back (This represents their history they carry everyday that led them to their political party preference). Step 3) When someone starts talking politics, change the subject (They are just looking for someone to tell them they are right. You are an Independent now and are open to all forms of thought so you will not be able to give them what they need)."
Michelle Larsen and her husband Jeff live in Boise, Idaho. They have owned and operated Creative Gift Baskets for almost eight years. They have one son Sam who is eleven.
