What happened in May of 2008 is that two activists, Jason Rutberg and Dr. Mark Taylor, got together to solve a problem that they were both experiencing and that many people who are promoting a cause, whether they be activists or organizations, experience:

So what You Inc. was set up to do was to answer this question by building a platform to distribute information to enable individuals and organizations of all kinds to promote causes and to strategically collaborate on a cause. The key idea here is that the people promoting cause A need to be aware of a related cause B so a united front can be established FOR THE CAUSE. You Inc. was designed to play the role of the glue between cause A and cause B for the people promoting the cause and this eliminates politics between organizations.
So at its core You Inc. is a membership program that offers services to both members and causes members want promoted. Some services cost money (such as health-care a member focused service available planned for 2009) and other services are free (such as a free forum for ANY Cause YOU create).

The strategy that You Inc. is following appears on the surface rather simple. If you can give people HIGH VALUE services that are in great DEMAND - such as health care and the ability to purchase products direct from manufacturers - you will create a large membership base simply because people want those high value services.
In doing so, the causes promoted are given a greater level of visibility because they are seen by all members via a newsletter that goes out to all members via email which contains new causes, the status of existing causes, how causes are interrelated and any products/services being offered by the community itself.
You Inc. recently set up, a ning site - http://youinc.ning.com, to enable people to create FREE causes. You simply go to the ning site, create an Event, tag it as a Cause - like the existing one present to StopS1959 - and state the title of the Forum you want created. This then tells the You Inc. staff you need a forum for your cause and they create it and set you up as a moderator of that cause for FREE. These guys have thought of everything.

You Inc. has distinct profitability models interwoven though every layer of the organization. Advertising - using technologies such as ad-sense - is a common profitability model however that is just the beginning here. The member offering a product or service is automatically advertised. The cause is automatically advertised. The cause represents a particular demographic - which is a focused advertisers dream. The cause itself has "services" that it needs to gain the widest possible reach and such services can be obtained from You Inc. as a paid member.
One of the stated objectives of You Inc. is to have broadcasting platforms on the East and West coast of the United States - radio shows and things of that nature - to broadcast the registered causes. Advertisers will then be able to "support" a given cause. They have even developed an investment model that will get what they call an "Advocate Investor" - i.e. a person who invests directly in the person/organization advocating a cause - a 30-50% return on their investment.
There is so much money being made based on this well refined business model - which is a closely guarded secret - that You Inc. can actually give people 30-50% return on their investment.
It is a business model that DEMANDS that You Inc. drive down costs so low that no one will be able to compete with the community itself in terms of prices for goods and services. The reason is simple, You Inc. is about leverage and it's success or failure depends entirely on how much leverage it has. The business model is designed as an engine that erases the line between consumer, product and cause - we can only do that if we build the community as fast and as large as possible.
To be successful, You Inc. MUST provide real value and as the You Inc. community grows, the costs of goods and services will progressively decline based on simple economies of scale.
Could you imagine obtaining the kind of heath care benefits that major Fortune 500 companies offer by simply being a member of a community or obtaining a low cost membership and having the option to buy that kind of health care at similar cost had you been employed?
