Dr. Arun Dhir, Laparoscopic Surgeon at Moolchand Hospital has been awarded the First National Board Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery. The fellowship was awarded during the 9th Convocation of National Board of Examinations at Cochin, which was presided over by Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Hon'ble President of India and Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Hon'ble Health Minister, Govt. of India. Post Doctor Fellowship in minimal access surgery is the only degree recognized by Govt. of India. Minimal Access Surgery, also called Laparoscopic Surgery, is a new surgical development which has made surgeries for gall bladder stones and hernia much more patient friendly.
The advantage of minimal access surgery is that the patient has a short hospital stay with cosmetic scars and less pain. Today a large number of other abdominal operations can be done laproscopically. Moolchand Hospital, a pioneer in the field of laparoscopic gynecology, is setting up a centre of excellence in minimal invasive surgery wherein surgeons can be trained in surgical skills and techniques required for laparoscopic surgery.
