Former WBC Champ Kevin Kelley to Fight for Boxing Illustrated Lightweight Title July 8 in Las Vegas

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 04, 2008 – Henderson, NV - Kevin 'The Flushing Flash'  Kelley will fight Jaime 'The Punisher' Palma on Tuesday July 8th at the Las Vegas Hilton for the Boxing Illustrated Magazine Lightweight Championship.

Kelley, from New York City but now residing in Las Vegas, is 59-8-2 with 39KOs. He is the former WBC and WBU Featherweight Champion. Palma, from Alexandria Virginia, is 13-11-1 with 3 KOs.

Also fighting on the card in separate four round fights  are heavyweights  Kaspars Kambala
and Ricco Rodriqwuez.

Kambala, managed by legendary fight referee Richard Steele, is a former UNLV and pro basketball player. The 6-9 giant is 2-0-1 in his young career.

Rodriquez is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion, having beaten MMA legend Randy Couture for that title back in 2002. He has now taken up boxing and is 1-0.

This is the first championship bout at the legendary Las Vegas Hilton venue in almost seven years. Once the home to great fights by fighters such as Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Oscar De la Hoya, and Larry Holmes, the Las Vegas Hilton is reintroducing boxing with this fight card.

Boxing Illustrated Magazine is sponsoring the fight as a championship bout. Recently, Ring Magazine sponsored the Joe Calzege Bernard Hopkins fight as their Light Heavyweight Championship. Boxing Illustrated and Ring are the two preeminent historic boxing magazines.
