Savings on Cost Of Living - Double Glazing and Insulation

Installing double glazed windows to a property, coupled with improved wall insulation, can cut the costs of home heating bills by half - and lower your carbon emissions.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 03, 2008 -
Recent figures from the Energy Saving Trust reveal that over one third of all heat lost from a non-insulated house is via the walls and windows.

Many UK houses have solid walls, which can be insulated externally or internally – offering annual savings of £380 and £360 respectively. Cavity wall insulation will also provide a 15 per cent reduction in heat loss and savings of £120. Further to this, double glazing is proven reduce heat loss through windows by half, with savings of £110 a year.

Sam Threlfall of National Double Glazing commented:

“There are some alterations which home owners can make themselves, such as filling gaps around skirting boards and floors with silicon sealant which can save around £20 a year, and lifting floorboards and laying mineral wool between the joists - this can help shave £40 off heating costs.”

Some home owners are eligible to gain benefits to aid the costs of insulation, energy suppliers and local authorities provide grants to help implement energy-saving measures.

“Double glazing is certainly worth the short term expense,” added Threlfall “in light of the long term savings and benefits to the environment.”
