Crystal Brown-Tatum
Crystal Brown-Tatum, President of Crystal Clear Communications, announces the release of her memoir Saltwater Taffy and Red High Heels: My Journey through Breast Cancer. The book details the author’s journey from diagnosis through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation to the one year survival mark.
“When I was diagnosed, the first thing I did was search long and hard for a book written by a young Black woman that would address my fears and hair loss concern. I was surprised that I could not locate such a book. I knew that there would be other young women overly worried about the chemotherapy side effects so I decided to photograph and detail every aspect of my treatment plan”, says Brown-Tatum.
Brown-Tatum is returning to work after a one-year medical leave of absence while completing medical treatments, including chemotherapy, for breast cancer. During chemotherapy, she was cast as an extra on “The Great Debaters” and “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins” as well as being a featured guest on “Oprah.” Mrs. Brown-Tatum was twice named one of Houston’s Top Professionals on the Fast Track by H Texas magazine readers (2006 & 2007) and Crystal Clear Communications was a 2005 Emerging 10 Award Recipient with the Houston Minority Business Council, a 2006 & 2007 Houston Business Journal (HBJ) Top Public Relations Firm and named Houston’s 4th Fastest Women Owned Business by HBJ in 2007. In addition, Texas Executive Women named Brown-Tatum a Women on the Move honoree in 2006 and Ebony magazine named her a Top Bachelorette in 2006.
