By: Jeff Gulko to Visit Project RISE Local Athletes Will Tour Youth Academic and Cultural Enrichment Camp Contact: Boston, July 1, 2008- Boston Red Sox Legend Luis Tiant and New England Patriots Eric Alexander will join Shawn Harris of ECC Life & Style on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Project RISE in Braintree. Tiant, Alexander and Harris will spend time with the children participating in the six-week academic and cultural enrichment camp. Project RISE, was started by former NBA guard and Dorchester native Rob Dixon back in 1991 after retiring from professional basketball. “I am honored to have both Luis and Eric see the value behind the great work we are doing here at Project RISE and have them spend some time with the kids. As a former professional athlete myself, I know the positive impact those who have made positive life choices can have on our youth. Kids emulate athletes and Luis and Eric coming here will be a true highlight in all of these children’s lives and have a major impact. It is just as important to have folks like Shawn join us as it gives the kids exposure to the business world”, said Rob Dixon, Executive Director of Project RISE. This summer over 300 children from the greater-Boston area will participate in the six-week, full-day program that includes instruction by local public and private high school teachers in Math, English, Science, History, SAT Prep, and Study and Organizational Skills. The academic portion of the program is four days leaving Friday’s for field-trips which will include trips to the Museum of Science, the New England Aquarium, and the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of African-American and Multicultural History. The tour of the program, which is open to media upon RSVP for security reasons, will be held at Project RISE’s Thayer Academy site located at 745 Washington Street in Braintree.
