The Apo E Gene Diet Book Wins Award

Apo E Gene Diet – An integrative medicine solution for the prevention of heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease and chronic illness .

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 01, 2008 -
The current situation:
Almost 1 million people die of heart disease every year. Five million people suffer from Alzheimer's disease and millions more care for them. Alzheimer's and heart disease are two very serious inflammatory diseases. Since the beginning of 2008, the buzz has been growing about a readily available genetic test that determines if you carry a variation of the gene that puts you at high risk for developing heart disease and Alzheimer's. The gene in question is called the Apo E gene and since the early 1990s, scientists have known that the six variations of this gene play a key role in Alzheimer's, as well as heart disease, Parkinson's, and other chronic conditions.

The problem:
Genetic testing only indicates a predisposition to heart disease or Alzheimer's, etc. It does not provide a solution to preventing or curing the disease. Until recently, no such solution has existed.

Finally, the solution:
Enter Pamela McDonald, RNFA, FNP, a leading integrative medicine nurse practitioner devoted to the prevention of cardiovascular disease and chronic illness. A graduate of Dr. Andrew Weil's Program of Integrative Medicine at the University of AZ, with almost 30 years of clinical experience and advanced specialty training in family practice, nutrition, surgery, women's health, exercise sports medicine, and mind-body medicine, McDonald began to focus on the Apo E gene in her practice. She determined that specific nutritional plans, along with specific environmental and lifestyle changes, can support a person's unique Apo E gene variation (called genotype) and in so doing reduce or eliminate chronic symptoms related to Alzheimer's, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and high blood pressure, in addition to a host of other symptoms. She now shares in her groundbreaking integrated medicine book, The ApoE Gene Diet: A Breakthrough in Changing, Cholesterol, Weight, Heart and Alzheimer's Using the Body's Own Gene (Elite Books, Hardcover, $27.95).
Ms. McDonald's work is scientifically supported by recent research. Robert Krauss, MD, for example, director of arteriosclerosis research at Children's Hospital in Oakland, CA and cardiologist Robert Superko, MD., past director of the Cholesterol, Genetics and Heart Disease Institute in San Mateo CA and American Cardiovascular Research Institute in Atlanta, GA, are among the leading researchers studying the Apo E gene and corroborating Ms. McDonald's work. Millions of people recognize and experience the problems; they are desperate for the solutions and want to know about this practical, useful information.

As Larry Dossey, MD, bestselling author of The Extraordinary Healing Power of Ordinary Things, writes, "This book represents the future of medicine - an individualized, personalized approach that honors our genetic uniqueness.  Pamela McDonald brings together a complete health program that honors all we are - body, mind, and spirit." Andrew Weil, MD has also heartily endorsed her work.
