Owner-operated and managed by Mischelle Hutchison and Holly Utzinger, Tailwinds Pet Resort will be unique not only in its architecture, but also in its approach to housing and caring for animals. Situated on one-half acre, the 4,500 square-foot campus will be able to accommodate 100 dogs and 40 cats within its trio of separate round buildings; two solely dedicated for medium and large dogs, as well as multi-dog families.
Hutchinson and Utzinger worked in tandem with Ashworth Design Partners to create this one-of-a-kind facility which in no way resembles a typical kennel. The dramatic design of angled copper roofs atop the round buildings has two purposes: it is visually pleasing, but also allows the sound to go straight up as opposed to outside, which provides a calmer environment and conforms to local noise ordinances.
The exterior features colorful and artistic shade canopies and a park-like setting which will be generously landscaped with mature trees and foliage to both absorb sound and to provide additional shade.
“While the modern design is aesthetically appealing to the owners, we want to stress that the entire facility has been designed with the safety and care of the animals first--then we add the element of fun--as we are focusing on every detail that will make a client feel comfortable leaving their pet with us,” said Utzinger.
