According to a new guide in the Manchester Evening News, installing a more efficient boiler can help to lower domestic energy costs.
In particular, a condensing boiler may reduce bills - with the newspaper suggesting that up to £150 could be saved with this type of appliance in a standard semi-detached house.
High-efficiency condensing boilers work by converting some of the heat that a conventional boiler would otherwise waste.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, condensing boilers transfer about 90 per cent of their fuel into heat, while non-condensers convert less - about 78 per cent.
Other potentially cost-cutting measures suggested by the Manchester Evening News were turning down the thermostat, installing adequate insulation and switching energy suppliers to find a more competitive price.
