SMN - (Phoenix, AZ) Steeleye Media Network, founded by talk show host Kevin W. Smith, has announced that it is taking the next natural step in its evolution. On June 27, 2008 Smith announced the network would be adding video to its broadcasts. Among the tens of thousands of internet broadcasters available online, SMN stands out for its innovation and support for independent artists, and its top quality talk shows.
"When the government and the music industry ganged up on internet broadcasters, I decided that there would never be another commercially licensed song played on my show. If they think I owe them money for promoting them, they can starve," said Smith, referring to the exhorbitantly high fees facing internet broadcasters.
"I encouraged every internet broadcaster with whom I have contact to walk away from commercially licensed music. I encouraged them to play only independent artists, and a lot of them did just that. Then, I founded a new network where only independent artists are played. Steeleye Media Network plays only the music of indie artists. That is all the music we will ever play, and now we are adding their videos."
SMN is receiving videos from independent artists through its web site. Smith says the videos do not have to be slick, commercially packaged productions. They do have to have high aduio and video quality, but they do not have to be professional productions. An artists can send music videos, or even a documentary of the artist(s).
