Solutions For Better Water Management In Filter Stations And Wastewater Treatment Plants

Scarcity of water calls for the need for tightly managed and accurate solutions for filter stations, wastewater management bodies and municipal corporations, so that water wastage is minimized

June 27, 2008 - PRLog -- With the ever increasing population in developing countries and the scarcity of potable water in there, a need has arise to conserve the diminishing water resources and improving the techniques used for wastewater treatment. Products and services aimed at accurately determining the level of water in open channels at water filter stations and treatment plants need to become more reliable and easy to use so that the water bodies can be used instead of being "manipulated". Sapcon Instruments' new precise rate of flow indicator and totalizer and loss of head detector are one such small step towards this giant goal.

The role of a rate of flow indicator is crucial in a water treatment plant set-up. A good water level indicator should have weir (flow channel) selection for different weir types such as Rectangular suppressed, Triangular and Cipoletti weirs. It should also have modified floating point arithmetics providing better mathematical numerical conversion accuracy. These attributes are offered in the Sapcon's ROF series. "We understand the need for better rate flow indication along with understanding that keeping costs under the umbrella is also of paramount importance. We have introduced three on board potential free relays allowing single point or pump control switching for level or flow rate allowing total six combinations of switching outputs." commented Ashwin Palshikar, Chief Marketing Officer, Sapcon Instruments. The rate of flow indicator (ROF Series) offers technical adjustments like removal of n=0.5-1.5 for triangular weirs, a pulse coded transmission and a wto wire sensor, making it universally applicable for waster and wastewater management plants, anywhere, commented Mr. Palshikar. He added, the system has a built-in flow-totalizer which reduces the investment for another totalizer.

The loss of head indicator measures the loss of head i.e differential level on both the sides of the filter screen in open channels of filter stations and water treatment units. The LOH series supports a cable length of 1 km between the sensors and the indicators and the electronics operate both with an AC and a DC supply, Mr. Palshikar said.

These instruments should offer a new meaning to the water and wastewater management industry. Sapcon's initiative in prodcution of quality water level indicators has already seen a warm reception and these initiatives should help users and city corporations in their efforts in water preservation.
