On National HIV testing day, the “Movement of Truth” amongst girls, female young adults, and women will begin! The day this movement begins is significant;
According to Womenshealth.gov, AIDS is the leading cause of death among African-American women ages 25-34 years living in the United States. Information provided by the CDC National Prevention Information Network states: Historically, the HIV/AIDS epidemic has affected more men than women. This gap is slowly closing. In several regions of the world, the proportion of women affected by HIV/AIDS is increasing. Of the estimated 33.2 million people currently living with HIV/AIDS worldwide, 15.4 million (46.4%) are women.
Words of wisdom from the Foundation’s supporter, actress Regina King: “Women are the pulse of the earth; nothing happens unless it comes through us. So, in knowing that, why don’t we embrace that?”
The Movement of Truth is all about knowing your status, your fact, your Truth as a woman. You don’t know and appreciate who you are unless you know what you are. In knowing your status of not only HIV/AIDS, but other sexually transmitted diseases, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., you are in a position of knowing your Truth, and no one can take that away from you!
Considering the important role played by women as primary caregivers and head of families, their well-being is critical for the success of any HIV prevention effort. On this day the Foundation ask all girls, young adults, and women to join us in our efforts. Help spread the Truth and support the cause by logging on to www.foundationofstars.org.
