Achievement Expert Develops Life Skills For Champions Via Chess Challenge Camps
(June, 2008; ATLANTA) -- Leave it to a former Alabama State Patrol trooper turned respected motivational speaker to create inspiration for at-risk inner city youth.
Orrin Hudson teaches children what some consider to be an intellectual sport combined with life skills to show them that there is something better than hanging out on the streets, and more hope than a life of desperation and crime.
As a follow up to his successful June Camp and because of overwhelming popular demand, Orrin "Checkmate" Hudson is once again sponsoring "The Making of Champions" Strategic Chess Camp, July 14-18 2008.
Be Someone will continue working to reach as many youth in Atlanta, as well as around the country, "to walk away as a productive individual and staying away from the pitfalls of life".
Peer pressure during summer activities in combination with additional free time can have tragic consequences. This innovative strategy can and does lead to better decision making skills and can ultimately help a child succeed in life and moreover continue their Summer with a positive outlook..
The chess challenge - for kids ages 6-19 - will take place at Redan Middle School 1775 Young Road Lithonia, GA 30058
"Teaching Kids to Make Every Move Count" remains Hudson's theme, in general, since his concept caught on in 2000. For the past seven years, he has inspired over 20,000 youth nationwide.
Recognizing the benefits to society, popular motivational speaker, Anthony Robbins, actress Jane Fonda, and other prominent Americans have come to praise the mission of the Be Someone Program.
"Through Orrin's amazing abundance of positive energy and ability to connect with youth, the chess program he has run has far exceeded my expectations,"
The National spotlight has been focused on Hudson and The Be Someone Program recently as he has been been featured on "The Early Show" on CBS, ABC's "Good Morning America", and in publications such as People Magazine and Time.
The First Leadership Chess Camp in Atlanta for 2008, sponsored by the 501 (c) 3 non-profit, Be Someone, Inc., was held last week in Stone Mountain, Ga., and featured five-time Georgia state chess champion-International Master Stephen Muhammad. The five-day camp included lunch and snacks daily. This Camp promises to be better than the first.
The chess camp and Be Someone Inc. come from Hudson's desire "to turn negatives into positives," and to be proactive to stop the violence on our city streets.
“We need to teach today’s youth to push (chess board) pawns, not drugs and guns, with heads held high, and with pants and grades up," Hudson emphasized. He also says that teaching kids how to make the most of their "end-game," with free, 16-week chess workshops for inner-city kids has taught kids "to make the right moves to get the right results" for successful living. "We should give kids alternatives to think it out instead of shooting it out!"
"My ultimate goal is to mentor one million students by 2012," Hudson, a father of five, says. "As we continue to need the assistance of dedicated business people, community leaders and educators to make the program work, We collectively must remember to help a children build character, hope and inspiration so they can set and achieve lifetime goals to realize their full potential.”
