According to Joan Brunskill of the Associated Press, there are a number of ways to cut fuel bills by properly looking after kitchen appliances and boilers that many people may not be fully aware of.
She states that simple changes can make significant savings as well as help in the fight to cut carbon emissions and slow global warming.
"Clean your refrigerator's ventilation grill. Have your boiler, furnace, air conditioning units and clothes dryer serviced thoroughly - especially if there are funny noises emanating from any of them," she advised.
Also highlighted is opting for fluorescent light bulbs, using shades to make the most of natural sunlight and sealing windows and doors using a weatherstrip.
Weatherstrips are available online in a range of sizes and can be used to keep out drafts on windows and doors of any size.
