St. Louis, MO -- The family of a Boise, ID college student with a brain tumor has taken to the internet in order to find treatment options. Phil Cameron was diagnosed with a brain tumor on Monday, June 16th. His health insurance won't cover the medical costs, so the family has created a website, www.philshead.org, to chronicle their search for medical treatment options.
"It's been devastating to our family, but we've all pulled together to find a treatment plan because Phil has a one year old daughter and wife that need him to make it through this," said Sid Cameron, Phil's uncle in St. Louis, MO, "The outpouring of support has been great, but we're against the clock on this one and need to find a solution fast."
Philshead.org features a blog journaling the family's ordeal as well as requests for help in identifying treatment options. The family has also created Philshead.org groups on the social networking sites Facebook and LinkedIn. A third group on MySpace is a work in progress.
"Phil is studying to become a Pharmacist and the surgery proposed has an alarming rate of brain damage possible that may basically end Phil's dreams. We're hoping to find an alternative treatment," stated Kimberly Cameron, Phil's aunt also in St. Louis. "At the same time we're fighting to figure out how Phil will be able to pay for it since his insurance company is telling him he could be on the hook for over $100,000 in medical bills."
"Boise, Idaho is a small town," Cameron continued. "All we're asking for is for help networking with medical professionals across the country."
