June 23, 2008 - PRLog -- The Patriot Hybrid Life Support System by Wilcox® Industries provides up to eight hours of operating time in contaminated  chemical and biological environments with a unique, first-in-class, hybrid system that utilizes a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and a Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR), Air Purified Respirator (APR) and Surface Air Respirator (SAR).

The Patriot has been tested and approved by the US Department of Defense to operate in contaminated, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) environments.  

The Patriot is manufactured from chemically hardened polycarbonate materials and aerospace-grade aluminum and works with most U.N. approved chemical masks.  Extension rings allow for the use of any type of filter and the cylinders for the Patriot feature separate pressure gauges and relief valves allowing them to work independently, protecting the operator in case of a cylinder failure.  The Patriot’s air supply is fully recharged in less than two minutes even while the operator is in a contaminated environment, another major breakthrough.

A breathing bag/inhalation hose brings air directly from the filter compartment to the operator preventing the need for multiple filters, thus reducing excessive weight.  The breathing bag/hose can be mounted on either the right or left side, accommodating either left- or right-shouldered shooters. The Patriot provides 71 minutes of open-circuit air with the larger tanks or 30 minutes with the smaller tanks followed by an additional seven hours of battery life to power the blower system, which uses eight lithium batteries but can also be run on a minimum of two batteries.
The Patriot mounts securely to a Universal Load Bearing Backpack System and features as an additional accessory a quick detach system.  The entire system weighs 27 pounds and is 11 inches wide with the small cylinders and 38 pounds and 14.5 inches wide with the large cylinders.  Optional accessories for the Patriot include an Exothermic Cutting Torch, a cooling module and a hydration module.  Pricing and ordering information is available by calling Wilcox direct at 603-431-1331.
