MS Advocates joined in from all corners of the state to call, write and email their individual legislators in an effort to keep them informed about the multiple sclerosis community here in NC. Eighty-eight members of the General Assembly received “Greetings from an MS Activist” and more than 230 emails were sent through the Society’s website encouraging legislators to adopt a state budget that addresses the needs of individuals living with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Specific requests addressed maintaining appropriations for the Home and Community Block Grant which funds in-home and community-based services and the North Carolina Housing Trust Fund for additional independent and supportive-living apartments for people with disabilities.
The Society provides support for the public through action alerts, form emails and contact information. With the rising cost of gas prices and the recent heat wave, constituents took advantage of this unique opportunity to impact local legislation from the convenience of their computer. About the National Multiple Sclerosis Society
MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t. We help each person address the challenges of living with MS. In 2006 alone, through our home office and our 50-state network of chapters, we devoted nearly $126 million to programs that enhanced more than one million lives to move us closer to a world free of MS. The Society also invested more than $46 million to support 440 research projects around the world. We are people who want to do something about MS NOW. Join the movement at www.nationalMSsociety.org.
