Jun 20, 2008 – United Kids, an independent nonprofit organization providing social, recreational, and cultural programs to underprivileged children launches the inaugural Meals of Hope event to lift the spirits and relieve the hunger of area homeless. United Kids participants will serve free meals from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on June 26, 2008 at the Sara D. Roosevelt Park on Delancey Street (between Forsythe and Christie's Street). A wide assortment of hot and cold foods will be served by volunteers from United Kids as well as volunteers from event sponsor Ernst & Young. Participants will also be treated to musical performances by some of United Kids’ talented young members.
Child and adult volunteers for the Meals of Hope will come from New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts. The Meals of Hope event will help to unite children and youth in the community, aid them in realizing their dreams and fulfilling their potential to become productive members of society.
United Kids was established as an independent nonprofit organization in 2005 based on the founder’s own experience living in poverty and abuse.
