HMI Releases Podcast Urging Property Owners To Prepare For 2008 Storm Season

HMI President And CEO Doug Cowles Discusses Importance Of Protecting Residential And Commercial Landscape Assets

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jun 19, 2008 – CARY, N.C. – Doug Cowles, president and CEO of Horticultural Asset Management, Inc. (HMI) (www.moneygrowsontrees.com), has announced the formal release of the firm’s audio podcast on the topic of preparing large trees and shrubs for the annual storm season.  In the podcast, Cowles discusses how residential and commercial property owners can take actions now that can help to prevent losses of their landscape assets as well as damage to other property by utilizing the firm’s inspection and health assessment products and services.

Cowles gives a detailed description of how property owners and the insurance industry as a whole are impacted by severe weather events and discusses the link between the health of large trees and their ability to withstand adverse conditions.  For reference, the average storm season – which officially begins on June 1 and ends Nov. 30 each year – produces roughly 10 tropical storms and six hurricanes.  The 2008 storm season is predicted to be well above that average, according to hurricane forecasters at Colorado State University (CSU).  Meteorologists at CSU predict 15 named tropical storms in 2008 and four major hurricanes, including one with a good chance of making landfall with the United States along the Atlantic Ocean.

Using data collected during an on-site inspection, HMI and its national network of arborists and tree care professionals are able to provide property owners with low-cost, standardized reports concerning the health and value of their trees and shrubs. Information available in the reports includes objective health assessments and a listing of all noticeable symptoms, recommendations for follow-up evaluations, standardized replacement cost valuation data, and customized care and maintenance instructions.

Quotes:
“There is an absolute link between the health of trees and their ability to withstand adverse conditions,” said Cowles.  “High wind is particularly dangerous to trees which have existing structural weaknesses or root conditions.  These conditions can elevate the potential for the loss of a tree and lead to substantial damage to nearby structures.  This podcast will shed some light on HMI’s products and how they can benefit any property owner.”
