(Norcross, GA) Ashworth Career School, part of Ashworth University, has announced the addition of Introduction to Financial Statements to its roster of career diploma programs.
The new course provides students with an introduction to common business finance terminology and applications such as balance sheets and cash flow.
“This course has been developed specifically for those who have not studied finance or taken an accounting course and need to understand what the numbers represent, how they factor into day-to-day operations and how to interpret financial statements for sound business decisions,” said Dr. Lisa Bryde, Director of Ashworth High School and Career School Diploma Program Development.
“Some of our students are looking to move up in their existing careers. Some have found themselves assuming tasks with little to no formal training and want to become more proficient. Some have started their own businesses and want to learn practical skills they can immediately apply when reading and analyzing financial statements,”
Ashworth’s “Introduction to Financial Statements” course is comprised of 10 comprehensive lessons, each beginning with a subject matter preview and course objectives, and a vocabulary builder of new words and terms. Lessons include:
• An introduction to keeping score
• Sales, expenses and equipment
• An introduction to the value of money and financial statements
• Budgets, manufacturing and analysis of a company
• Overview of financial statements
• The balance sheet
• Income statement and statement of stockholders’
• Reporting quality
• The statement of cash flows
Perry Woodward, Jr., CPA, CMA, is the course instructor. With more than 20 years of accounting-related experience, Woodward is also the Controller for Discrete Wireless, Inc.
Students start the program at any time, study, complete practice exercises and online exams on their own schedule. “Like all of our Career School courses, Introduction to Financial Statements is self paced,” commented Jon Bouffler, Ashworth Executive Vice President. “Many of our students are working full-time jobs and have families. We wanted this to be as flexible as possible so that they can work it into their work and family schedules. And with rising gas prices it helps that they can complete the course at home and not have to travel to a classroom.”
