FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jun 18, 2008 – FACT Event Raises Awareness About Child Abuse In Southern Nevada
Event Benefits Family and Child Treatment of Southern Nevada Programs

LAS VEGAS, NV – Family and Child Treatment of Southern Nevada (FACT) recently held its 10th Annual “For a Child’s Tomorrow” fundraiser on June 14th, 2008 at 9 PM.  This event helped raise money for FACT’s programs that provide treatment to children and their families.  The “For a Child’s Tomorrow” fundraiser event was made possible by corporate sponsorships from Olive Branch Studios, Bombard Mechanical, and Reliant Development Company.

Family and Child Treatment of Southern Nevada’s “For a Child’s Tomorrow” fundraising event offered live music by Richard Femenela and David Vella, as well as a live and silent auction, and a raffle.

Proceeds from the event will benefit numerous FACT programs designed to stop the cycle of child abuse in Southern Nevada.  These programs include Victims Services, Adolescent Substance Abuse Program, Community Outreach and Prevention Education Services, Donna’s House, Family Advocates, and Adult and Juvenile Transition Services.  These programs are currently funded in large part through grants and donations.

With available funding resources shrinking due to a slowing economy, the success of this fundraising event will directly impact FACT’s ability to provide services to Southern Nevada.  FACT currently treats over 3,000 families annually, providing treatment for children, families, and offenders involved in sexual abuse and assault, incent, molestation, substance abuse, and child abuse.

Family and Child Treatment of Southern Nevada is still accepting donations towards this event.  Persons interested in contributing to Family and Child Treatment of Southern Nevada can make donations at http://www.factsnv.org .

Child abuse is a major problem in Southern Nevada, as well as throughout the United States.  The latest statistics show that 25% of girls are sexually abused before the age of 18, and nearly 70% of all reported assaults occur to children under the age of 18.  FACT provides treatment to abused children at no cost, and FACT has never turned an abused child away.  FACT’s ability to provide these valuable services is due in large part to private donations made by local businesses and residents of Southern Nevada.

FACT provides more than just treatment - FACT’s programs are specifically designed to stop the cycle of abuse in Southern Nevada.  Studies show that abused children have a higher risk of growing up to become abusers, specifically that violent child abusers are substantially more likely than those with adult victims to have been physically or sexually abused when they were children (BJS Survey of State Prison Inmates).

FACT independently provides treatment to abused children, their families, and offenders to stop the cycle of abuse before it can pass on to the next generation of Southern Nevadans.

FACT is also accepting tax deductible donations to support its ongoing activities online at http://www.factsnv.org .
