According to festival producer and Detroit Blues Society President Steve Allen, this festival is a great value for the customer and provides a weekend alternative to travel when faced with $4 per gallon gas. This event provides lots of family fun with retail vendors, swimming, picnicking, and a playground.
The Detroit Blues Challenge
This Detroit Blues Challenge is a preliminary round where the overall judged winner will move on to the Challenge Finals in November and wins a cash prize. In 2007, 9 preliminary rounds were staged plus the Finals. In 2008, there will be 5 rounds plus the Finals.
In this round of the Challenge, the competitors will be (along with their performance times):
MULEDRIVE (12:00 pm)
CARL CABALLERO BAND (12:40pm)
PAUL MILES BAND (1:20pm)
REVEREND ROBERT SEXTON’S ALLSTAR BLUES REVUE (2:00pm)
Each Band will play 1, 30-minute set of original music, and will be judged by a panel of music professionals, in accordance with International Blues Challenge rules, to determine an overall winner of this round.
HOT BLUES AND BBQ 2008
Hot Blues and BBQ 2008 will feature spectacular Blues performances from a star-studded cast of musicians from across the USA. Along with the musical performances, the event also features BBQ Vendors and the Hubert Distributors/
