Statistics have just been published which describe how Tenerife tourism’s trend is growing and growing – and for good reason! The island played host to over 1.8 million visitors during the first three months of 2008, an increase of 2.5% on the same period of last year.
Thanks to the quality of the island’s hotels, it’s not a surprise that the great majority of these tourists chose to take advantage of this aspect of Tenerife – 1,055,331 of the total tourists laid their head in a hotel bed during this period whilst only 747,529 opted for a non-hotel option. This 3.2% rise in hotel guests can only indicate that the mountainous island’s hotels are just getting better and better!
With respect to who these guests are, it would seem you are more likely to hear German, Dutch or English than you would Spanish during your Tenerife trip with over 1.4 million of the 1.8 million tourists coming from outside of Spain. This is a rise of 2.7% on last year, a great reward for the island’s efforts to promote tourism (through exciting events such as the AguaViva music festival and the Ladies Golf Open). However, it must be said that Tenerife hasn’t gone unnoticed in Spain either, though the island had significantly less Spanish tourists than it did foreign tourists, their figure was still up by 1.9%, a great indicator which one can only hope will encourage the Tenerife council and tourism boards to continue the good work making the island into a holiday haven!
