The Voice of Free Earth is a novel - a book of stories set in Free Earth, California, a mythical farming community in California's rural San Joaquin Valley. They are the stories of Christopher Beale, something of a chronicle of his boyhood experiences as the son of a larger than life country doctor, Doc Beale. They begin as Doc Beale prepares a ritual end to his life and then, without resolution, the reader is transported back in time and treated to Christopher's world - as his life unfolds in the 1950s and early sixties. Christopher is alone and isolated, emotionally paralyzed by his fear of his father, and mesmerized by the sights and sounds of this place called Free Earth. Told with simple words, they are stories about simple and important things. And they are told in the sometimes sad, sometimes happy, but always solitary voice of Christopher. Christopher Beale is The Voice of Free Earth.
“When I first wrote The Voice of Free Earth, I was a partner and creative director in a San Francisco ad agency with the resources and creative talent to package my writing with rare care. One Horse Rhino Press was created for that singular purpose. But I never intended to be a publisher. With the help of Amazon and the emergence of the internet – and now Kindle, everything has changed. Free Earth first gained great reviews in print, but the KINDLE EDITION will open it to a whole new audience. All thanks to Amazon and to www.Itglobalsolution.com.”
“After multiple vendors failed to convert scanned book file into Kindle file format, Supremus Group successfully converted the file to meet Kindle conversion standards and as per Michael Klein requirements. It was our privilege to convert the book for acclaimed author like Michael Klein” Bob Mehta, Director of Business Development. Itglobalsolution.com offers many services for authors and publishers like converting printed book into any file format, converting file from any format into any format. “One of the best reviews came from the pen of a friend, the great writer Richard Rodriguez, author Hunger of Memory and Days of Obligation, amongst many. What a talent – and what a review. We were both living in San Francisco at the time, and we were both from the San Joaquin Valley. Richard of course was already quite famous, was an Editor at The Pacific News Service and a regular Essayist of The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. Richard’s words were precious then and more so now. Thank you Richard.
“In so many ways, Christopher's boyhood - his loneliness, his resilience - rhymed with my own. I loved the gentle but unsentimental evocation of the Valley through his story. At times, the writing reminded me of the great Saroyan himself!”
The KINDLE EDITION is available for Kindle users at $4.95. The Paperback is available at $19.95. Both are available now at Amazon. Reviewers can also request galleys in WORD, a complete MOBIPOCKET book for your Reader, or a Paperback – immediately and at no cost. See contact information above.
Growing up in California’s agricultural San Joaquin Valley in the sixties, the plight of Farm Workers and the organizing efforts of one Caesar Chavez were an early and powerful influence. As were the times. The Free Speech Movement was in full swing at Berkeley. The Black Panther Party was blossoming in Oakland. Assassination and protest were in the air and he was in the streets as a paid organizer – a Trailblazer by job title, where he exercised and honed his communication skill as a leader of the National Peace Action Coalition and Student Mobilization Committee. Quite a training ground, though he was a natural – and hit that ground running. And later it was off to New York to work with Ralph Nader and then non-profits mostly. But eventually, making a living demanded that Michael make his way into mainline advertising, and he was pretty lucky there two – working with some great creative talent and some genuinely great clients on both coasts.
Now after a thirty year career he’s very much retired from the ad agency world, has moved to the Seattle-area where he loves his growing family, hates the weather, and writes full time.
The Voice of Free Earth is at the core of Klein's brand as a writer, and remains available in Paperback on Amazon through four printings. Printed books will always be precious to Klein, but the publication of the KINDLE EDITION is a milestone and a new beginning. The Voice of Free Earth is ready next to be published as the Trilogy it was first written to be, and extended to a series of vignettes not unlike the mentioned Garrison Keillor’s work. Free Earth is not far from Lake Wobegon. Klein’s latest work in progress is A Raccoon’s Story, the first Rhinofarm Fable from One Horse Rhino Press. All will launch first on Kindle.
Klein has toured and spoken internationally as the author of The Voice of Free Earth, and as a lecturer on The Methodology of Brand Awareness and Character Traits behind successful Branding.
