Sandy’s longest running hairdressing salon, TopsSpot, is celebrating over a quarter of a century of successful business.
Owner, Maltese-born Frida Calleja was trained in St Julians, Malta where she opened her first salon. When Frida moved to the UK she gained further experience in Cardiff and London’s West End before opening ‘TopsSpot’
Over the years Frida has developed strong business ethics and has established a reputation for always putting the needs of her clients first. However that doesn’t mean she will always agree to their requests! She explained: “ I believe that honesty is the key and that is how my business has grown. If a style is wrong for the client then I will give my professional view and the reasons why. It’s not about money, TopsSpot is my hobby and I am passionate about it.”
Everyone at TopsSpot shares this philosophy, from Frida’s daughter Roberta, a senior stylist with 16 years experience, to Susan their latest recruit who, along with her first class hairdressing skills, has that same caring attitude. Krishna and Chris, who keep the salon running smoothly, also make clients feel special by ensuring that everyone has a drink and a friendly word whilst they are waiting.
Jean Frame summed up the affection that clients have for Frida when she said: “I have lost count of the times I have received complimentary comments about my hair. Some of my friends have gone to TopsSpot and asked to have their hair done just like mine. Each client who walks out of the salon is a testimony to the skill that Frida and her team have for hair styling.”
Even after 25 years, Frida is not resting on her laurels and already has plans to expand her current enterprise.:
Jean Frame concluded: “Frida, her daughter Roberta and all the girls in the salon make the atmosphere so friendly, it’s almost like being a member of a special club. I hope she will be here for many years to come.”
