Canon Celebrates World Environment Day

Canon Environmental Grants to recognise Australian environmental initiatives

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jun 11, 2008 – To celebrate World Environment Day, Canon Australia is once again asking Australian businesses and community groups to submit nominations for its Canon Environmental Grants program.

Now in its third year, the Canon Environmental Grants recognise organisations working on projects that benefit Australia’s natural environment and reward them with product endowments to the value of $5,000 each. Five Grants will be given in total.

Successful applicants for Canon’s Environmental Grants will be given a selection of Canon imaging products to assist their environmental work including high-quality compact digital still cameras, digital video cameras, binoculars, digital SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses, compact photo printers and All-in-One printers. One of last year’s winners, 1st West Epping Scout Group, is using the cameras provided by Canon to help them record the impact of recent environmental issues on the bush reserves and walking trails that their scouts have been enjoying for the past sixty years.

Canon Australia’s Quality, Safety & Environment Manager, Janet Leslie, says that the Grants are available to any organisation or community group involved in environmental work and encourages people to apply.

“Canon recognises that funding can often be limited for projects focused on conserving the environment. Canon offers these Grants to ensure these important and inspiring projects don’t go unnoticed or unfinished.

“It is great to see that each year our Grants really do help aid the work of such deserving organisations by providing quality equipment to capture and document activities. With applicants increasing every year we look forward to the response in 2008,” said Ms Leslie.

Canon’s corporate philosophy – kyosei – is one of living and working in harmony for the common good. In accordance with this approach, Canon is committed to environmental protection both in its daily operations and through support activities. From product design and manufacturing, through to sales, use, recycling and reuse, Canon works to conserve energy and resources, maximise product lifecycles and eliminate hazardous materials from its products and processes.

Last year’s winners of Canon Australia’s Environmental Grants represented a cross section of the community and included 1st West Epping Scout Group (NSW), Glen Huon Primary School (TAS), EarthCollective (QLD), National Parks Association of NSW (NSW) and PAW Media and Communications (NT).

These winners illustrate the diversity of initiatives that the Canon Environmental Grants recognise - from recording of environmental issues on bush reserves and walking trails; to educating children about the environment; protecting and conserving Sydney Harbour, and increasing awareness of the benefits of Aboriginal land management.

Organisations interested in applying for the Canon Australia Environmental Grants should visit http://www.canon.com.au/environmentalgrant for further information and to submit an online application form.

Applications close Friday 31 August 2008. The successful applicants will be notified in October, and the Canon products presented shortly afterwards.
