The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer recently took place on the weekend of April 12th and 13th. Inspired by her mother Alice Baranda, a breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed last summer with the illness but had successfully undergone treatments, Aysha was committed to walk 39 miles over the course of two days and raise $1,800 in lifesaving funds towards breast cancer research.
“Only 5-10% of breast cancer cases result from inherited genetic mutations. This striking figure would have never cross my mind if I hadn’t walk at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer,” explained Aysha. “My mom’s story compelled me to take a part in this rewarding experience.”
In culmination of her ongoing efforts, Aysha was able to endure the vast Houston terrain and raise a whopping $1,975 with the support of family members, friends and fellow EMG team members. The money she raised for the Avon Foundation would be used to help provide access to care for those medically under-insured women and men, fund educational programs and contribute to the ongoing research towards a breast cancer cure.
Aysha’s commitment towards eliminating breast cancer is a true testament in dramatically making an impact in the lives of millions affected by breast cancer worldwide. Her participation in the Avon Walk has made her an exemplary EMG team member who is doing her part in fulfilling her social responsibility to the world.
“It shouldn’t take a diagnosis to care about this cause because you’d never know… it could be you one day,” added Aysha. “I walked because I wanted to be a part of the fight against breast cancer. Sometime in the near future, I’m hoping our collective efforts will result in better preventive care, or better yet an ultimate cure.”
