EmPower Girls Week activities not only help girls to be more confident about themselves and their abilities, but also have a positive impact in their community, where they stand out as examples of how girls are making a positive difference in society. This program also builds on meaningful relationships that promote harmony throughout the community, which in turn translates into a true formula for success in the real game of life.
The Girls will have the opportunity to meet with the New York Liberty Team and star players. One lucky girl will participate in an exclusive on court meeting with the Liberty and Monarchs team captains prior to tip off. It is anticipated that eight thousand (8000) fans will attend this event.
About EmPower Girls Week
New York State joins with Giolai (formerly Tomorrow Leaders, Inc.) in 2007 to launch "EmPower Girls Week" - a weeklong observence that takes place every 2nd week of June.
EmPower Girls
Week is the brainchild of Pamela N. Njapa-Minyard, Founder and Executive Director of Giolai. EmPower Girls Week is designed to help build self-esteem among girls and encourage them to grow into healthy, strong and successful women as they prepare to make future education and career choices. This weeklong event welcomes all young
girls to prepare for tomorrow by discussing, sharing, and creating the future they envision for themselves...from how they want their work, home, and community lives to be, to how they want the world to be...and by thinking about our world today and how they can help make it better!
Therefore, I, David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim June 8-14, 2008 as EmPower Girls Week" New York State Governor David Paterson, May 19, 2008.
